Free air pollution alerts

We've funded a free air pollution alert system that will send you a text or email message when poor air quality in your area increases to a moderate level or above.

This will provide an early warning, making it easier for you to:

prepare
make informed decisions to reduce exposure
take steps to better manage your health conditions, or those you care for

Poor air quality affects everyone, but in particular the young, old, and sick. If you're healthy, you probably won't notice or suffer ill effects from elevated levels of air pollution commonly experienced in the UK.

For some though, being better informed means you can take steps to reduce exposure and manage your condition, reducing negative impacts of air pollution on your health. This includes those with:

lung conditions such as:
- asthma
- bronchitis
- emphysema
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
heart disease

The alert notifies you when air pollution is expected to be raised and provides health recommendations. You'll be reminded to always follow your doctors advise.
